About the Family Support Organization of Middlesex County
The Family Support Organization of Middlesex County is a partner of the New Jersey Division of Child Behavioral Health Services (DCBHS) which is designed to help children with complex emotional, mental health or behavioral challenges. The DCBHS is a system of care that focuses on family strengths and the utilization of community resources.
The Family Support Organization of Middlesex County is a non-for-profit, family-run, county-based organization that opened its doors in October 2003. Through information, advocacy guidance, group support and volunteer opportunities, the Family Support Organization is designed to provide a perspective that is uniquely family oriented. The FSO provides direct, family-to-family peer support, education, advocacy and other services to family members of children with emotional and behavioral challenges. We run support groups and informational sessions designed to bring families together for ongoing companionship, training, problem-solving and networking.
A primary responsibility of Family Support Organization is to provide a "Family Support Partner" to those families whose children are currently receiving services from a Care Management Organization (CMO). Hired by our FSO, "Family Support Partners" are individuals who also have children with emotional and behavioral challenges. Their personal experience as care givers to children within the system (DYFA, Juvenile Justice, Hospitals, etc.) enables them to offer support and guidance to new CMO families that want their assistance.
By working closely with CMO Care Manager, "Family Support Partners" can serve an important comrade to families whose children have more complex needs. The goal of our organization is to make sure that all children and families get help when and where they need it, and to keep kids in school, their homes and communities, all of which plays an important role in their well being and recovery.
